Jan Hillert, MD, PhD is Chair of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. He was responsible for the Multiple Sclerosis Centre at the Karolinska University Hospital at Huddinge for more than 15 years. The centre has more than 1500 patients and Professor Hillert sees patients with MS regularly.
Professor Hillert has chaired the Swedish Multiple Sclerosis Registry, which contains longitudinal data on over 16 000 patients since 2000, and was previously President of the Swedish Multiple Sclerosis Society and Scientific Secretary of the Swedish Society of Neurology. He has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Neuroimmunology since 2000, and was Associate Editor of Neuroscience Letters. His key research interests are the genetic and treatment epidemiology of MS and he has taken part in more than a dozen clinical trials in MS.
Professor Hillert has published 250 original scientific papers, mainly on MS.
Professor Hillert was an active member of the Neuro-Compass Steering Group from January to December 2015. He contributed to the initial concept development, website design and content at the time of launch.
